G.F.F. celebrates ‘big week’ with segment on Oz

BOSTON — The appearance of Glenn Gaesser Nov. 28 on “The Dr. Oz Show” was a great success, said Jennifer Geiger, an account manager with Mullen.

Dr. Gaesser appeared in a lengthy segment on the program, provocatively challenged by the show’s host for taking positions that discourage dieting in favor of more broadly healthy lifestyles, including better eating and exercise.

Dr. Gaesser has been a spokesperson for and a scientific advisory board member of the Grain Foods Foundation for many years. Mullen is the public relations/advertising agency for the G.F.F.

“This was a big media week for -G.F.F. thanks to Dr. Glenn Gaesser’s appearance on Monday’s episode of ‘The Dr. Oz Show,’” Ms. Geiger said in a weekly wrap-up of developments at the foundation. “It was a terrific segment as Dr. Gaesser remained calm, logical and credible in the face of attempts from Dr. Oz to twist his words and sensationalize his claims, and we couldn’t have been more pleased.”

Ms. Geiger said the show reaches approximately 4.35 million viewers nationwide, equating to a publicity value of nearly $200,000.

“Since the segment aired, we’ve received a number of positive comments on our social media channels,” she said.

Also during the week, representatives of the G.F.F., the American Bakers Association and the Wheat Foods Council gathered in Washington to meet with officials to discuss the U.S. Department of Agriculture School Nutrition Proposal and the Marketing to Children Task Force Proposal. In particular, the important role both whole and enriched grains play in a complete and healthful diet was emphasized.
