Cargill to launch low-saturate canola oil

MINNEAPOLIS — Cargill plans to launch a Clear Valley low-saturate canola oil and make it available for customer testing in early 2010. It initially will be available in North America.

The oil will have 4% to 4.5% saturated fat, or 25% less than conventional canola oil. It is produced from Cargill’s Victory hybrid seeds. Using the oil may allow food manufacturers to make nutrient content claims such as low in saturated fat, reduced saturated fat and free of saturated fat.

"This new technology will enable Cargill to expand our offerings into the ‘next generation’ of low-saturate oils," said Jenny Verner, president of Cargill Specialty Canola Oils.
