October egg product down 1% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in October was 222,515,000 lbs, down 13% from September and down 1% from a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

October production of edible whole eggs was 146,592,000 lbs, up slightly from October 2009; liquid whites were 50,161,000 lbs, down 4%; liquid yolks were 25,762,000 lbs, down 5%; and inedible product was 18,534,000 lbs, down 4%.

Edible liquid product produced during the January – October period was 2,243,427,000 lbs, up 3% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 1,422,194,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid whites were 549,266,000 lbs, up 4%; liquid yolks were 271,967,000, up slightly; and inedible product was 193,283,000 lbs, up 5%.

Shell eggs broken in October totaled 175,248,000 dozen, down 11% from September but up 2% from the previous year. Shell eggs broken in the January – October period totaled 1,731,506,000 dozen, up 3% from the same period of 2009.
