MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. — Beneo-Orafti is introducing Orafti L58 Organic, a liquid organic fructooligosaccharide (FOS). It may be used as a prebiotic fiber to promote good digestive health and as a sugar replacer in such applications as yogurt, ice cream, breakfast cereals, cereal bars and baked foods.

Production samples of the ingredient are available to U.S. food producers. Full production for the U.S. market was scheduled to begin this month.

"The introduction of L58 Organic is yet another first for Beneo-Orafti," said Joe O’Neill, vice-president of sales and marketing at Beneo-Orafti, which has a U.S. office in Morris Plains. "It shows a clear demonstration of commitment to market-driven innovation, considering the importance of the organic food market segment in the U.S. and elsewhere.

"The company is proud to be the first major inulin producer to launch an organic version of FOS to the market."

Beneo-Orafti produces inulin and oligofructose products derived from chicory root. Orafti L58 Organic has received organic certification from BCS Oko-Garantie GMBH, Nuremberg, Germany, under the standards of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program.
