MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills, Inc. on June 8 broke ground on its $42 million, 1.5 million-square-foot distribution center in Social Circle, Ga. The facility, which will distribute the company’s products throughout the Southeast, will create 112 jobs and is expected to be the largest distribution center ever built in the United States that meets LEED certification standards. LEED certification measures how well a building or community performs across the following metrics: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
