CANTON, MASS. — Dunkin’ Donuts marked National Donut Day June 5 by announcing the winner of the company’s first ever "Create Dunkin’s Next Donut" competition.

Jeff Hagar of Hoover, Ala., was named winner of the competition for his "Toffee for your Coffee" donut, a glazed, sour cream cake donut topped with chopped Heath bar.

Mr. Hagar will be awarded $12,000. The donut will be sold at Dunkin’ Donut locations in the United States beginning in the fall.

Also to mark National Donut Day, Dunkin’ offered customers a free donut with the purchase of any beverage.

Mr. Hagar was one of 12 finalists selected from 130,000 donut contest submissions. The 12 received $1,200 each and traveled to Dunkin’ headquarters in Canton for a bake-off before a team that included company leaders and outside experts. The selection was based on a vote of the team and online votes by the public.
