SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio city council on Dec. 9 approved funding in excess of $2.5 million that will be used for the redevelopment of the ButterKrust Bakery building in San Antonio.

The bakery, which has been vacant for more than 20 years, will be turned into the new corporate headquarters for C.H. Guenther & Son Inc.

Groundbreaking on the project, which is being tabbed, “Bakery on Broadway,” is expected to begin next month. Once the building is opened in 2012, C.H. Guenther is expected to occupy 53,500 square feet of the 107,000-square-foot office building. The remaining portion will be leased.
