BOWLING GREEN, KY. — The Kroger Co. said it will expand its Country Oven Bakery, a move that is expected to add 33 jobs at the plant. The expansion will add 50,000 square feet to the company’s existing 177,000-square-foot facility to accommodate a second iced cake line.

The Country Oven Bakery makes iced cakes, frozen dough products and bread for Kroger.

At the time it was built in 1981, Country Oven Bakery was the single largest building project Kroger had ever undertaken. The Bowling Green site was chosen because of its strategic location next to interstates and highways.

Kroger is the largest U.S. traditional supermarket chain, employing more than 334,000 associates who serve customers in 2,468 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under such names as Kroger, King Soopers, Dillons, and Fred Meyer.

In addition to Country Oven Bakery in Bowling Green, Kroger’s other bakeries/delis are: Anderson Bakery, Anderson, S.C.; Clackamas Bakery, Clackamas, Ore.; Columbus Bakery, Columbus, Ohio; Dillons Bakery, Hutchinson, Kas.; Indianapolis Bakery, Indianapolis; KB Specialty Foods, Greensburg, Ind.; King Soopers Bakery, Denver; La Habra Bakery, Los Angeles; and Layton Dough Plant, Layton, Utah.
