OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. on May 10 said global comparable sales increased 4.9% in April and 4.4% year-to-date. System-wide sales for restaurants worldwide, meanwhile, increased 10.3%, or 6.4% in constant currencies, during April.

“McDonald’s continues to connect with customers through our outstanding menu variety and compelling value, unbeatable convenience and contemporary restaurants,” said Jim Skinner, chief executive officer. “These competitive advantages have powered our ongoing momentum and delivered another month of strong sales performance.”

U.S. comparable sales at McDonald’s rose 3.8% behind beverages, including new McCafe offerings such as Frappes, core products such as Chicken McNuggets, and an all-day, everyday value message.

European comparable sales were up 5.3% due to positive results in France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Russia, while comparable sales climbed 3.9% in Asia/Pacific/Middle East and Africa. Strong results reflected extended value programs, locally-relevant menu variety, convenience and service enhancements, McDonald’s said.
