PARKER, COLO. — David Moore, a wheat producer from Texas and a representative of the Texas Wheat Producers, has been named chairman of the Wheat Foods Council for 2010-11. He succeeds Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Faga, who recently retired as head of the North American Millers’ Association.

Mr. Moore has been a member of the Texas Wheat Producers and the W.F.C. since 1993 and has an extensive background in agriculture, including the production of wheat, corn, alfalfa and milo as well as raising cattle. In addition to his position with the W.F.C., he has served on a number of local, state and national boards, including the National Association of Wheat Growers, U.S. Wheat Associates, the International Grains Program Board, and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

“David’s history with our organization and agricultural expertise will prove a great asset to us with him as board chair,” said Lynn Holly, interim director of the W.F.C. “In addition, the Council saw great success with our first urban wheat field project in 2008. We look forward to the same success with our next one planned for later this year under David’s leadership.”

Other members of the W.F.C. board include: David Green of ADM Milling, vice-chairman; Brent Robertson, wheat producer and representative from Nebraska Wheat Commission, treasurer; and Kathy Wiemer, M.S., R.D., director in the Bell Institute of Health & Nutrition, a division of General Mills, Inc., past chairman. Ms. Wiemer takes the place of the retired Ms. Faga.

In further action, the W.F.C. moved forward with its plans on a second urban wheat field to be held later this year in Washington. The second urban wheat field will be structured similarly to the previous one held in New York City in October 2008, but it will have enhancements, including baking demos with a master chef, outreach to Hill staffers and legislators and local school groups, the W.F.C. said.
