RENNES, FRANCE — Le Duff America, Inc., the North American subsidiary of Rennes-based Groupe Le Duff, has acquired Bruegger’s Enterprises, a Burlington, Vt.-based operator and franchisor of fast casual bakery-cafes specializing in bagels, bread, wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, cream cheeses, coffee and desserts. According to Groupe Le Duff, the acquisition makes it the second-largest bakery-cafe in the world, with sales of more than $1.53 billion and more than 1,100 restaurants and bakeries. Panera Bread is the largest bakery-cafe. “The addition of Bruegger’s to our North American operations combined with our other brands, La Madeleine, Brioche Doree and Bridor, reinforces our position in the café-bakery segment and is aligned with our multi-brand strategy,” said Claude Bergeron, chief executive officer of Le Duff America, Inc.
