WASHINGTON — Michael F. Holick, an outspoken advocate for the need to increase intake of vitamin D, will address the annual meeting of the North American Millers’ Association. Dr. Holick, professor of medicine, physiology and biophysics at the Boston University School of Medicine, will discuss vitamin D fortification Oct. 26 as part of the general session of the NAMA annual meeting. The meeting will be held Oct. 25-27 at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C. The question of whether increasing vitamin D in the diet would be beneficial to public health is one that has been simmering in recent years, and enriched grain products have been identified as a prime potential for fortification with vitamin D. Other featured topics at the NAMA annual meeting include “Politics and the economy” by Edward Lopez, a professor of economics at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C., and “Commercial Credit” by Pierce Hodnette, vice-president of relationship management, Agfirst Farm Credit Bank, Columbia, S.C.
