NEW DELHI, INDIA — Kraft Foods Inc. has filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against Indian biscuits and dairy company Britannia Industries for trademark and copyright violations of its Oreo cookies, according to an article in The Economic Times. In its suit, Kraft claims the lining, inner rings and florets and their placement on Britannia’s recently launched Treat-O biscuit are identical to the original Oreo cookies. Additionally, Kraft claims the brand name, Treat-O, with an emphasis on “O,” is inspired by Oreo. Kraft Oreo cookies have been imported and sold in India since being registered in the country in 1991. According to The Economic Times, Britannia has refused comment on the lawsuit.
