LOS ANGELES — Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack visited the William R. Anton Elementary School on March 4, promoting the Obama administration’s proposals for reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Obama administration is proposing $10 billion in additional funding beginning in fiscal 2011 to improve the quality of school lunch and breakfast programs, increase participation, train school food service workers and upgrade kitchen equipment.

“Additionally, this investment will allow additional fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products to be served,” the Department said. Mr. Vilsack characterized the reauthorization as a “unique opportunity to improve the health of our children.”
