VANCOUVER, B.C. — International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) will collaborate with GLG Life Tech Corp. to use rebaudioside C, a stevia extract, as a flavor modulator and to have exclusive supply of rebaudioside C from GLG Life Tech Corp. Rebaudioside C is a glycoside in the stevia leaf. While not itself a sweetener, rebaudioside C has been shown to reduce calories 20% to 25% when trialed with nutritive sweeteners.

Vancouver-based GLG Life Tech has four patent applications for the separation methodologies of rebaudioside C.

“Our industry-leading capabilities in the separation of steviol glycosides, production quality and scale coupled with IFF’s global capabilities in innovation, advanced flavor systems and application possibilities for high purity rebaudioside C make this an exciting global opportunity,” said Kevin Li, vice-president of technology for GLG Life Tech.

Mark Dewis, vice-president of flavors R.&D. for New York-based IFF, said, “We look forward to a fruitful relationship with GLG. As leaders in their field, we view their partnership as a critical addition to our arsenal of health and wellness solutions for our customers.”
