WINNIPEG, MAN. — Richardson Oilseed Ltd. has developed two new margarine products using canola oil to lower the saturated fat content. Bake-It Sweet, an all-purpose baking margarine, has been shown to work in cookies, cakes, icing, crumble-style pie shells and toppings. Roll-It, a premium, roll-in margarine, has been shown to work in croissants and Danish pastries.

Winnipeg-based Richardson Oilseed Ltd. will launch Bake-It Sweet and Roll-It at the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting and food exposition June 12-14 in New Orleans.

“These new margarines meet trans-fat regulations and offer commercial bakers a healthier ingredient,” said John Haen, vice-president of nutrition for Richardson Oilseed. “Our goal is to help food processors develop healthier products using canola oil to lower the saturated fat content while preserving the good taste and functionality of their food products.”
