ConAgra Foods, Omaha, NE, joined its Healthy Choice brand with its Ultragrain whole-wheat flour. Healthy Choice flour blends 30% Ultragrain flour with enriched white flour.

Ultragrain all-purpose flour contains fiber, phytonutrients, antioxidants, B vitamins and minerals. Recipes using Heathly Choice Ultragrain flour bake and taste like those made with white flour yet provide the benefit of 9 g of whole grains per serving.

“This flour delivers on the Healthy Choice promise of giving people convenient, easy ways to improve the nutritional value, quality and variety of food they serve their families with no sacrifice on taste,” said David Palfenier, president, ConAgra Foods Grocery Foods. “Ultimately, a lot more Americans will get closer to the recommended amounts of whole grains in their diets than do today with refined flour or 100% wholewheat flour.”

Introduced to food manufacturers in fall 2004, Healthy Choice Ultragrain will roll out to consumers at the end of June in select Wal-Mart stores in Texas, Virginia and North Carolina. The 5-lb bag retails for $2.29.
