WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread increased in June, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 149c, up 1.8c per lb from May and up 10.7c from June 2010. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread rose in two regions — up 8.2c in the South and up 2.2c in the West — and fell in one region — down 11.7c in the Midwest.

At 193.8c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 2.7c per lb from May and up 17c per lb from June 2010.

The national average price of family flour in June was 52.8c per lb, up 0.7c from May and up 4.4c from June 2010. The price was up in two regions — up 3.4c in the West and up 0.1c in the Midwest — and down in one region — down 0.7c in the South.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 124.8c per lb, up 1.7c from May and up 13.1c from June 2010. Chocolate chip cookies were 331.7c per lb, up 9.8c from May and up 2.2c from June 2010. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 75.5c per lb, down 1.2c from May but up 1.6c from June 2010.
