WASHINGTON — Wheat stored in all positions on Dec. 1, 2011, totaled 1,656,423,000 bus, down 14% from 1,932,946,000 bus on Dec. 1, 2010, the U.S.D.A. said in its quarterly Grain Stocks report. Dec. 1 corn stocks were down 4% from a year ago at 9,641,903,000 bus, but soybean stocks were up 4% at 2,365,784,000 bus.

The U.S.D.A. wheat number was below the average trade expectation of 1,679 million bus, but U.S.D.A. numbers were above average trade estimates for corn of 9,400 million bus and for soybeans of 2,312 million bus.

On-farm stocks of wheat were 405,000,000 bus, down 26% from 550,000,000 bus a year ago, while off-farm stocks were 1,251,423,000 bus, down 10% from 1,382,946,000 bus last year. Indicated disappearance of wheat during the September-November period was 490 million bus, down 5% from the same period last year, the U.S.D.A. said.

Durum stocks were 47,780,000 bus, down 30% from 68,342,000 bus a year ago. On-farm stocks of 24,500,000 bus were down 47% from a year ago while off-farm stocks of 23,280,000 bus were up 7%. Indicated disappearance during the September-November period was 15.9 million bus, down 50% from a year ago, the U.S.D.A. said.

On farm stocks of corn totaled 6,175,000,000 bus on Dec. 1, down 2% from a year earlier, while off-farm supplies were 3,466,903,000 bus, down 8%. Indicated disappearance of corn during the September-November period was 3.84 billion bus, down 6% from 4.1 billion bus in the same period last year, the U.S.D.A. said.

On-farm soybean stocks were 1,138,500,000 bus, up 4% from Dec. 1, 2010, while off-farm stocks totaled 1,227,284,000 bus, up 3%. Indicated disappearance during September-November was 905 million bus, down 25% from the same period a year earlier.

Dec. 1 stocks of other grains were: barley, 133,604,000 bus, down 26% from 2010; oats, 78,633,000 bus, down 22%; and grain sorghum, 149,833,000 bus, down 37%, the U.S.D.A. said.
