WASHINGTON — December production of edible nonfat dry milk was 150,202,000 lbs, up 25% from November and up 8% from December 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.

Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 165,444,000 lbs, up 14% from both November 2011 and December 2010. December nonfat dry milk shipments were 128,926,000 lbs, up 13% from November and up 8% from December 2010.

Output of skim milk powders was 36,579,000 lbs, down 8% from November but up 35% from the previous year. Total dry whey production was 83,004,000 lbs, up 7% from November but down 7% from December 2010. Production of lactose was 85,710,000 lbs, up 5% from November and up 4% from December 2010. Whey protein concentrate production totaled 39,629,000 lbs, up 8% from November and up 6% from December 2010. Dry buttermilk outturn was 10,277,000 lbs, up 19% from November and up 5% from the previous year.

Total manufactures’ stocks of dry whey on Dec. 31, 2011, were 45,581,000 lbs, up 12% from November but down 3% from December 2010. Total lactose stocks were 66,516,000 lbs, up 4% from November but down 18% from December 2010. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 41,834,000 lbs, up 3% from November and up 14% from December 2010. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 15,170,000 lbs, up 28% from November and up 38% from December 2010.

Butter production in December 2011 was 165,906,000 lbs, up 9% from November and up 5% from December 2010.

Total cheese production in December was 929,454,000 lbs, up 4% from November and up 2% from December 2010.

Production of regular hard ice cream totaled 50,348,000 gallons, down 4% from November but nearly equal to 50,368,000 gallons in December 2010. Low-fat ice cream production was 24,526,000 lbs, down 6% from November but up 16% from December 2010.
