NEW YORK — Bill Smith, president and chief executive officer of National Sugar Marketing, has been elected president of the Sugar Club, an international sugar forum that is headquartered in New York.

Mr. Smith has been active in the sugar industry for nearly 40 years, most recently at National Sugar Marketing, which is a joint venture between the Amalgamated Sugar Co., a sugar beet processing company, and Sucden Americas Corp., an international trade house. National Sugar Marketing is responsible for the sales and marketing of all refined sugar produced by Amalgamated and sourced by Sucden for the U.S. market.

Earlier, Mr. Smith was vice-president of sales and marketing for Amalgamated and vice-president for a cane sugar refining company. He has extensive experience in both the beet and cane segments of the sugar industry.

Other officers elected to the board included Ken Lorenze, Jenkins Sugar Group, and Andrea Kavaler, LMC International Ltd., who were named vice-presidents; Rick Pasco, Sweetener Users Association, who was named secretary; and Robert M. Vorsanger, treasurer.
