Long Co. awards Butter-Krust, Schwebel

CHICAGO — During The Long Co.’s recently held annual shareholders meeting, the Chicago-based cooperative recognized Butter-Krust Baking Co. of Sunbury, Pa., and Schwebel Baking Co. of Hebron, Ohio, in its yearlong competition.

Butter-Krust took the Holsum Silver Cup for Best Holsum Brand White Bread. The bakery may display the Silver Cup logo on its Holsum packaging for the next 12 months.

Schwebel Baking’s Hebron plant won the annual Gold Cup for Best Buns for the second year in a row. If the Hebron plant “three-peats,” the trophy will be retired and displayed at its bakery permanently.

In a very close contest, The Long Co. also selected Butter-Krust as the Best in Bread winner for 2012-2013. Butter-Krust is part of Bimbo Bakeries USA.
