LAS VEGAS — Adapting to shifts in the baking industry and to technological change in the baking world and beyond were keys to the success of the 2013 International Baking Industry Exposition and will be crucial in 2016 and beyond, said Michael J. Cornelis, vice-president of international sales for The American Pan Co./Bundy. A member of the International Baking Industry Exposition Committee, Mr. Cornelis will serve as chairman of the 2016 Baking Expo.

In a video interview conducted by Milling & Baking News, Mr. Cornelis described a range of changes implemented, including the introduction of the Innovation Showcase gallery and the B.E.S.T. in Baking competition. He also cited a special app created for the show for Android and Apple devices.

“I think the mobile app is just crazy good,” Mr. Cornelis said. The interview was conducted at the American Bakers Association/BEMA pavilion at the 2013 International Baking Industry Exposition at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Mr. Cornelis headed the international committee for I.B.I.E. 2013 and discussed great strides made in recent Baking Expos toward the goal of increasing international attendance.

Mid-way through the interview, Mr. Cornelis was joined by Rosalio Rodriguez, a top executive of Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V., and a member of the I.B.I.E. Committee, and for the balance of the interview the two executives offered perspectives on a variety of issues related to I.B.I.E.
