WASHINGTON — A new slate of officers has been proposed for the American Bakers Association’s board of directors for 2014-16. The proposed officers will be considered at the 2014 A.B.A. convention set for March 16 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Rich Scalise, chief executive officer of Hearthside Food Solutions, is set to succeed Howard R. “Robin” Alton III, president and c.e.o. of Pan-O-Gold Baking Co., as chairman of the A.B.A.

Fred Penny, president of Bimbo Bakeries USA, will continue his position as the first vice-chairman, while Allen Shiver, president and c.e.o. of Flowers Foods, Inc., will take over as second vice-chairman. Mr. Shiver is a past chairman of the A.B.A., having served in the role from 2010-12.

Erin Sharp, vice-president of manufacturing for The Kroger Co., will serve as treasurer, replacing longtime A.B.A. treasurer Albert Lepage of Flowers Foods.

Mr. Alton will assume the role of immediate past chairman, replacing Mr. Shiver.

The appointments will be effective once approved by the A.B.A. board of governors at the All Membership Meeting on March 16.

“A.B.A. looks forward to the leadership and guidance of the incoming slate of officers,” said Robb MacKie, president and c.e.o. of the A.B.A. “The leaders who have served on the A.B.A. board of directors have been excellent ambassadors for both the association and the baking industry.

“A.B.A. bestows its congratulations and best wishes to Albert Lepage, friend and longtime A.B.A. member and supporter of the association. Having served on the board of directors for nearly two decades, Albert’s dedication and service to A.B.A. and the baking industry is second to none. He will be deeply missed.”
