With projected sales of $50 million, Sahale Snacks makes nut and fruit mixes.

ORRVILLE, OHIO – The J.M. Smucker Co. has signed an agreement to acquire Sahale Snacks, Inc., a Seattle, Wash.-based maker of nut and fruit mixes. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With net sales projected to reach approximately $50 million this year, Sahale Snacks manufactures sweet and savory fruit and nut snacks, with such varieties as cashews with pomegranate and vanilla; maple-glazed pecans combined with walnuts, cherries and apples; and chipotle chili seasoned almonds and peanuts with lime-infused mango pieces. Products feature such ingredients as unsulfured fruits, organic honey, and pure ground Madagascar vanilla beans.

The company previously was owned by private equity firm Palladium Equity Partners, L.L.C.

The transaction, which is expected to close in mid-September, includes a leased facility in Seattle and will add 150 employees to the company.

"This is an exciting acquisition and an excellent strategic fit for our company," said Paul Smucker Wagstaff, President, U.S. Retail Consumer Foods.  "The addition of the Sahale Snacks premium lifestyle brand, and its portfolio of innovative and on-trend products, provides an established platform for growth in the snacking space.”

The brand fits with Smucker’s strategy to offer more products with clean labels. Sahale’s mixes contain no bioengineered ingredients or artificial flavors or preservatives.
