Three grain professionals earn industry master's degrees

MINNEAPOLIS — John Rossman, Kokomo Grain, Inc., Winamac, Ind.; Matthew Kauffman, Key Cooperative, Newton, Iowa; and Troy Goldner, Kalama Export Co. L.L.C., Kalama, Wash.,  have completed their master’s degrees in grain operations management from the Grain Elevator and Processing Society/Kansas State University distance education program. Each of them is a member of GEAPS.

The master’s program requires finishing four tracks totaling 18 courses, including a credential in grain operations management, as well as specialist credentials in property and casualty risk management, grain quality management and grain handling equipment management. Completion of the full curriculum is seen as a way to attain a more holistic view of the industry. Graduates must also complete at least one additional continuing education unit every three years in order to stay current with innovations and changing standards.

The latest recipients bring the total to 21 who have earned a credential in grain operations management through this program and 13 who have added on at least one specialist credential.

“Having all of the credentials, you have a better understanding of things that are happening,” Mr. Goldner said. “It’s always good to know what other people do. What my safety guys, farmers and maintenance department deal with every day, for example.”

The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) is a professional association that supports its members and the industry by serving as the knowledge resource for the world of grain handling industry operations.
