SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Flowers Foods, Inc. has sold the former Hostess Brands baking plant in Sacramento to Leeland Enterprises, a Granite Bay, Calif.-based investment firm. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. “The property was sold because it did not fit our strategic plans for California,” said Mary Krier, vice-president of communications and corporate responsibility at Thomasville, Ga.-based Flowers Foods. Flowers Foods bought the plant and 19 others around the United States in July 2013. Earlier this year, Allen Shiver, chief executive officer, said a former Hostess plant in Henderson, Nev., and an expanded bakery in Modesto, Calif., were “helping to meet our needs for the California market.”
