SAYREVILLE, N.J. — Sabert Corp., a global food service packaging manufacturer, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Kalman Packaging Inc., a Graham, N.C.-based manufacturer of thermoformed plastic hinged food containers, focused on the bakery/supermarket sector. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sabert said the acquisition of Kalman broadens its reach across multiple channels and reflects its desire to get into the bakery segment, which the company has identified as a growing category.

Founded in 1983, Sabert operates facilities in Sayerville; Riverside, Calif.; Louisville; Nivelles, Belgium; and Zhongshan, China.

Dan Kalmanides, owner and president of Kalman Packaging, said he believes the new relationship will help Sabert and Kalman accelerate new product development in the bakery segment.

“With the acquisition of Kalman, Sabert will be able to provide new innovation and versatile packages designed specifically for pies, cupcakes, muffins and other bakery foods,” Mr. Kalmanides said.

Kalman Packaging was founded in 1996 and operates out of its headquarters in Graham.
