ORRVILLE, OHIO — Sales of the Uncrustables brand of frozen sandwiches surged in the first quarter for the J.M. Smucker Co. Uncrustables was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult first quarter (period ended July 31) for Smucker. While the company’s overall sales and profits were down, Uncrustables sales jumped 13% from the same period in 2016. The future of Uncrustables was the subject of discussion in an Aug. 24 conference call with investment analysts.
