WASHINGTON — The American Bakers Association has extended its support for member companies that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.

“As I am sure you are aware, flooding in Texas and Louisiana has resulted in a complete shutdown in cities on the Gulf Coast, as well as their surrounding areas,” said Robb MacKie, president and chief executive officer of the A.B.A. “Many A.B.A. members’ facilities are in the region. I would like to personally assure you that A.B.A. stands ready to assist members in any way.”

Mr. MacKie said the A.B.A. is urging its members in affected areas “to express caution, stay safe and follow the instruction of local authorities.”

The A.B.A. identified several resources for support during the storm, including:

• Federal Emergency Management Agency: 800-621-3362

• Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: 800-832-5660

• Texas Department of Transportation: 800-558-9368

• Louisiana Department of Transportation: 877-452-3683

• American Red Cross: 800-733-2767

Additionally, Mr. MacKie urged A.B.A. members that are planning to deliver life-saving commodities to refer to information provided by the Department of Homeland Security (D.H.S.), including contacting R6-privatesector@fema.dhs.gov and Eraina.perrin@fema.dhs.gov and answering the following questions:

• What life-saving commodities are you transporting? (Deliveries are limited to life-saving and life-sustaining commodities for now)

• How many trucks, and how are trucks marked?

• What is the end destination and known route?

• What IDs do drivers have?

• What is the ETA for the destination?

“This information will enable FEMA with the ability to communicate with local authorities, regarding inbound flow of assistance, and will ultimately assist with prioritization,” Mr. MacKie said. “If you were not affected by Hurricane Harvey, we ask that you join the A.B.A. team in keeping members in your thoughts and prayers. Please do not hesitate to call the A.B.A. office at 202-789-0300 if you have any questions or need assistance.”
