ACE Bakery plans to invest $31.9 million to expand production capacity at its plant in Gaffney, S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — ACE Bakery, L.L.C., a subsidiary of George Weston Ltd., has unveiled plans to invest $31.9 million to expand production capacity at its plant in Gaffney, S.C. The expansion will create 40 jobs at the plant over the next several years, the company said.

The company said it will add 80,000 square feet to the existing facility and will add a production line and double the size of its existing freezer.

ACE Bakery produces and distributes baked foods to a variety of retail and food service sectors.

“We at ACE Bakery are very excited with the opportunity Cherokee County has provided us to expand our business,” said Roy Benin, president of ACE Bakery. “The region’s growth, as well as the workforce and infrastructure, were key factors in expanding our bakery. We appreciate the support from the state of South Carolina and Cherokee County and look forward to continuing this great partnership.”

ACE Bakery opened the 60,000-square-foot bakery in Gaffney in 2013 with a goal to supply artisan baked bread, including baguettes, bread and rolls, to retail and food service sectors throughout the United States, with a focus on the East coast. At the time the bakery was opened, ACE said it bought 10 acres of land surrounding the bakery for future expansion.
