In Oct. 2016, Mars announced its plans to create Mars Wrigley Confectionery, including chocolate brands such as M&M’s and gum brands such as Doublemint.
 

HACKETTSToWN, N.J.  — Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. intends to base its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey, using existing offices in Hackettstown and a new location in Newark. The transition should be completed by July 2020 when about 1,000 employees will work in Hackettstown and about 500 employees will work in Newark. Mars Wrigley Confectionery global headquarters will remain in Chicago.

“Mars is proud to have a strong legacy and future across both New Jersey and Illinois,” said Berta de Pablos-Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. “Expanding in New Jersey will enable the continued growth of our U.S. business. We are fully committed to working with all of our associates to support them through this transition.”

Mars in October 2016 announced its plans to create Mars Wrigley Confectionery with about 30,000 employees working in about 70 countries. The segment includes chocolate brands such as Snickers and M&M’s, gum and mints brands such as Doublemint and Lifesavers, and confectionery items such as Skittles and Starburst.

“Over the past year, we’ve been focused on creating Mars Wrigley Confectionery in the U.S. to better serve our customers, address consumer trends and accelerate growth opportunities in the vibrant U.S. confectionery category,” said Ms. de Pablos-Barbier. “Creating U.S. offices in New Jersey will allow us to keep driving growth while also positioning us to retain and attract the future talent needed for our continued success.”

Mars’ history in Newark dates to 1941 when M&M’s were created as military rations during World War II.
