CHICAGO — Carolin Fesenberg has joined Blommer Chocolate Co. as sustainability manager.

Ms. Fesenberg, who will report to Kip Walk, director of cocoa, will office initially at Blommer facilities in East Greenville, Pa.

Longer term it is expected Ms. Fesenberg will be based in Europe, a staging location allowing her to visit production areas “where she will develop, manage and oversee Blommer’s cocoa sustainability and traceability programs.”

Before coming to Blommer, Ms. Fesenberg was a project manager/project adviser for Swisscontact, a not-for-profit non-governmental organization aimed at helping indigent people in developing countries find a path toward economic self reliance. In her work at Swisscontact, Ms. Fesenberg was based “in the field” in Indonesia.

“From her work with Swisscontact she believes that a holistic approach is required for a successful value chain,” Blommer said. “While it needs to be cost-effective and commercially viable if it is to survive, it must also deal with the broad issues that farmers and their families face rather than the narrow objective of simple financial return.”

In her new position Ms. Fesenberg will help implement and refine Blommer’s existing global initiatives while increasing the company’s involvement in improving the livelihood of cocoa of cocoa growers who supply the company.

Ms. Fesenberg graduated from the University of Applied Science in Konstanz, Germany, with a master’s degree in international business and communication, specializing in Southeast Asia. While German is her native language, Ms. Fesenberg is fluent in English and Bahasa (the official language of Indonesia) and also is able to communicate in French and Spanish.
