London baker expanding specialty bread business

LONDON — Finsbury Food Group P.L.C., a maker of cake, bread and bakery goods, is expanding its bread manufacturing facilities.

As part of the expansion, Finsbury has secured a 15-year lease on a 25,000-square-foot building near its Nicholas and Harris bakery in Salisbury in the United Kingdom. Over the next two years, Finsbury will extend the Nicholas and Harris bakery into the new building, expanding the capacity of the bakery, while allowing for “more efficient and environmentally conscious premises.”

The company said the expansion will ensure it has the capacity to meet its customers’ growth expectations.

“We are very pleased to be investing in our specialty bread business following its consistent growth over the past few years,” said John Duffy, chief executive officer of Finsbury Food Group. “We continue to benefit from growing demand for specialty bread and look forward to the benefits that this expansion will bring.”

Earlier this year, Finsbury sold its United Central Bakeries gluten-free business to Genius Foods for £21 million. At the time of that transaction, Finsbury said the sale would allow it to invest in its core cake and specialty bread business to drive further growth both organically and by acquisition.
