MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Glencore Xstrata, P.L.C., Baar, Switzerland, has accepted an offer from Cargill Australia Ltd. to purchase Joe White Maltings, Adelaide, Australia, the two companies said Aug. 5. Joe White Maltings has seven plants and supplies brewers in Australia and Southeast Asia.

The companies expect to complete the transaction before the end of the year. Cargill operates malting facilities in Europe and the Americas, but the company does not have a presence in the Australian malting market.

“The addition of Joe White Malting will complete Cargill’s global footprint in all key barley production areas and enable us to better serve our global and leading regional brewers in the region,” said Doug Eden, president of Cargill’s Global Malt Business.
