TORONTO — Marcus Mariathas, director of product development at ACE Bakery, Toronto, is part of the four-person Team Canada to win the Louis Lesaffre Cup, together with a team from Brazil. The competition was held recently in Argentina, and the victory sets the stage for the groups to compete in the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie, the Bakery World Cup, to be held in Paris in February 2016. A division of Weston Foods, ACE operates artisan baking plants in Toronto; Vaughan, Ont.; and Gaffney, S.C. Other Team Canada members include James Holehouse, a pastry chef; Alan Dumonceau, who heads the baking program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology; and coach Mario Fortin, executive chef at Salmon House in West Vancouver.

“This is a huge accomplishment for the ACE development team led by Marcus, and I am very proud of the entire team and this very important achievement,” said Lee Andrews, president of ACE Bakery.
