Fifty-five guests from the Nigerian milling industry attended the official opening ceremony and toured the facility.

LAGOS, NIGERIA — To meet local millers’ needs more rapidly and efficiently, Mühlenchemie GmbH & Co., KG opened a technology center in Lagos, Nigeria.

The facility is a trial bakery modeled after Mühlenchemie’s central technology center in Ahrensburg, Germany. Developers at the center can customize systems for improving, standardizing and fortifying flour and tailor them to local conditions. Emenike Okoye will manage the operation. He has more than 20 years of experience in quality assurance in the Nigerian milling industry.

“Thanks to a combination of our comprehensive production capacity in Germany and local development know-how we will be able to supply the Nigerian milling industry with customized systems faster than before,” said Lennart Kutschinski, managing director, Mühlenchemie.

Due to the market volatility for raw materials, manufacturers of flours in Nigeria face many challenges, and varying qualities of grain need to be processed in even shorter cycles.

“Together we will be working to produce applications that ensure consistently high standards for flour and provide a more rapid response to emerging trends,” Mr. Kutschinski said.

Mühlenchemie exports its products to more than 120 countries and maintains close relations with more than 2,000 mills around the globe. The new facility in Lagos is the first technology center from the business to open in Africa.
