Clif bar introduces MOJO snack bars
EMERYVILLE, CALIF. — Clif Bar & Co. is rolling out a new line of snack bars comprised of roasted nuts, chunks of organic chocolate, and a variety of fruit such as blueberries. The line features flavors such as cranberry almond, wild blueberry almond, coconut almond peanut, dark chocolate almond sea salt, and dark chocolate cherry almond. All gluten-free bars are 200 calories or less and produced with 70% organic ingredients. In addition, the bars don’t contain trans fat, partially-hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, or synthetic preservatives. Clif MOJO bars are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.49 for a single bar or $5.99 for a multipack of five bars.
Orlando Baking Co. announces addition of new healthy bread
CLEVELAND — Honey Grain and Purple Wheat Raisin bread varieties are the latest additions to the Orlando Baking Co. True Grains product line. Honey Grain bread offers 24 mg of DHA omega-3 per serving, while the Purple Wheat Raisin bread is low in fat. Both bread flavors are stamped with the “go! Healthy” seal, which means they have been certified by the Cleveland Clinic nutrition experts to be 100% whole grain, contain no trans fat, and have minimal saturated fat, added sugars, syrups, and sodium. Starbucks introduces vanilla macchiato and expands breakfast sandwich offerings
SEATTLE — Starbucks Coffee Co. is adding a vanilla macchiato to the espresso offerings as well as expanding hot breakfast menu options. The vanilla macchiato offers a mixture of steamed milk and espresso drizzled with brown sugar and Madagascar Bourbon vanilla. With the expansion of the hot food offerings, Starbucks introduced four new sandwiches, including slow-roasted ham and Swiss, vegetable and fontiago, egg and cheddar, and reduced-fat turkey bacon. The hot sandwiches feature ingredients such as buttery croissant buns, melted cheddar, and cage-free egg whites. The new vanilla macchiato and sandwiches will be available at Starbucks stores nationwide.
Mrs. Freshley’s and Hershey team up to deliver sweet treats
THOMASVILLE, GA. — The Hershey Co. and Mrs. Freshley’s, a business unit of Flowers Foods, partnered to create two new sweet snacks: peanut butter flavored Swiss rolls and double chocolate mini donuts. The peanut butter Swiss rolls are made with Reese’s brand peanut butter, while the chocolate mini donuts feature Hershey’s cocoa. Mrs. Freshley’s Reese’s peanut butter Swiss rolls are chocolate cakes infused with a peanut butter filling and topped with a chocolate coating striped with more peanut butter. They are available in 12-oz 12-count bags and 2.8-oz two-count, single-serve packs. The double chocolate mini donuts feature a soft cake donut consistency with Hershey’s cocoa topped with a chocolate coating. They are available in 12-oz 12-count bags and 3.3-oz two-count, single-serve packs. Both the Swiss rolls and donuts are available in supermarkets, convenience stores, and vending machines nationwide.
Udi’s introduces new frozen food entrees
BOUDLER, COLO. — Udi’s Gluten Free is staying on top of trend in the gluten-free category with four new frozen food entrees. The varieties accommodate both meat and vegetable lovers with flavors such as broccoli and kale lasagna, Italian sausage lasagna, penne and cheese, and penne and cheese with bacon. The broccoli and kale lasagna packs in broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, kale, and onions, while the Italian sausage lasagna includes ricotta, Romano cheese, parsley, and Italian sausage. Penne and cheese is infused with sharp-aged cheddar and the penne and cheese bacon variety offers the same cheese base, but with a topping of uncured bacon. All of the meals are sold for a suggested retail price of $6.49. Udi’s Gluten Free products are available at national grocery stores and retailers.
Mr. Cheese O’s launches cheese snacks
ANAHEIM, CALIF. — In lieu of baked snacks full of additives, Mr. Cheese O’s is stepping up snacking nutrition standards with the addition of O-shape cheese snacks made with artisan cheese. The cheese comes from Sonoma Creamery and is hormone-, gluten-, wheat-, and corn-free. Flavors such as original, cheddar, Tuscan herb, and sweet chili pack in 10 grams of protein per 1-oz bag. In addition, the snacks contain no sugar, no trans fat, only 150 calories per pack, and boast ingredients such as quinoa and ancient grains. Mr. Cheese O’s will be available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.99.
Clif Kid announces Zbar Protein
EMERYVILLE, CALIF. — Clif Kid is rolling out another healthy snack for active children called Zbar Protein. The bars are produced with pea and whey protein along with a blend of rice crisps and oats, all atop a layer of chocolate. The child-friendly flavors include chocolate chip, chocolate mint, and peanut butter chocolate. In addition, the Zbar line will feature an iced lemon cookie addition for the spring, which has lemon blended into the oats of the bars. All Zbars contain zero grams of trans fats as well as no partially-hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, synthetic preservatives, and artificial flavors. “It can be challenging to find protein snacks that are convenient and nutritious,” said Michelle Ferguson, executive vice-president of marketing for Clif Kid. “Easy-to-grab Zbar Protein not only contributes to kids’ daily intake of protein, which is needed for growth, but tastes great thanks to kid-approved ingredients like organic chocolate chips and organic peanut butter.” The bars are available at natural food retailers, grocery stores, and mass retailers for a suggested retail price of $4.99 for 5-count boxes and $4.49 for 6-count boxes.
Snyder’s of Hanover innovates with Pretzel Spoonz
HANOVER, PA. — Synder’s of Hanover is giving pretzels a new meaning with the addition of the spoon feature. Pretzel Spoonz feature a double-ended, spoon-shaped pretzel that’s designed to scoop spreads and dips. The spoon pretzel creation contains only 1.5 grams of fat per serving and is baked, which makes it a healthier alternative to chips. Pretzel Spoonz are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.69 for a 12-oz bag.
Eggo adds to breakfast options
BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Eggo is rolling out a new on-the-go line of Eggo waffles and french toast called Eggo Bites. The Eggo Bites are microwavable and come in portable pouches of bite-sized flavored waffles or french toast. The waffles come in a maple flavor, while the french toast comes in cinnamon and vanilla flavors. They are available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $2.99.
