F.M.I. recognizes Campbell's Morrison

PHOENIX — The Food Marketing Institute on Jan. 11 recognized Denise Morrison, president and chief executive officer of Camden, N.J.-based Campbell Soup Co., for her “exemplary contributions to the food retail supply chain” with the F.M.I. William H. Albers Industry Relations Award. Ms. Morrison received the honor at F.M.I.’s Midwinter Executive Conference.

Ms. Morrison has had a long career in the food industry at such companies as Kraft Foods’ Snacks and Confections divisions, Nabisco, Nestle, PepsiCo, Inc., and The Procter & Gamble Co. She joined Campbell in 2003 as president of global sales and chief customer officer, and rose to president of Campbell USA, then president of the company’s North American business to executive vice-president and chief operating officer in 2010. She was named c.e.o. in August 2011.

“The Albers Award celebrates excellence in trading partner relations, and Denise is widely recognized as a dynamic and nimble leader,” said Leslie G. Sarasin, president and c.e.o. of the F.M.I. “She invests in her staff, her business partners and the betterment of the food chain through holistic contributions and innovative products.”

Longtime friend, former colleague and executive chairman at Acosta Inc., Gary Chartrand, celebrated Ms. Morrison’s achievement in a video testimonial saying, “If you can get people to put their hearts and minds together to accomplish a common goal with the right inspiration and leadership, you can accomplish just about anything you want and I think Denise has exemplified that over the years. Every place she’s been, she’s been able to build that culture; she has the ability to connect the people, and I think that’s really important in leadership.

“(Denise has) been able to connect the dots between her company and F.M.I. and the retailers and wholesalers and the sales agents and just build great relationships.”

Ms. Morrison is a founding member of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, an initiative of manufacturers and retailers to combat obesity in the marketplace, workplace, and schools.  She also is on the board of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, where she chairs its Health and Wellness Committee. She was named a vice co-chair of the Consumer Goods Forum in 2013 and serves on the organization’s board.  She was named to President Barack Obama’s Export Council in 2012.
