WAYZATA, MINN. — Heinz Hutter, former president of Cargill during the early 1990s, died June 15. He was 85 years old.

Born in Munich, Germany, Mr. Hutter graduated from the University of Erlangen in West Germany in 1954. He joined Cargill in 1955 as a grain trader at the company’s Hamburg, Germany, office, and after a few years came to the United States, where he worked in a variety of positions until Cargill named him president of the company’s Argentine operations in the 1960s.

Mr. Hutter moved back to Minneapolis in 1973 to become head of Cargill’s food and farm products group, which included animal feed. By 1975, he was named a Cargill director and in 1981 became an executive vice-president.

He became president and chief operating officer of Cargill in 1991 and retired in 1994 at the company’s mandatory retirement age of 65.

Mr. Hutter was preceded in death by his wife, Sisi. Survivors include a daughter, Christl Hutter Larson; a son, Robert P. Hutter; his fiancée, Bianca M. Fine; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Wayzata Community Church in Wayzata, Minn., at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 29. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the National Animal Humane Society or the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota.
