BEMA adds three staff positions

Two new hires and one promotion round out BEMA's leadership team.
 

OVERLAND PARK, KAS. — BEMA recently created three new staff positions within its leadership structure in an effort to better carry out the organization’s strategic initiatives.

“The process of assembling a high performing team to maximize BEMA’s service potential for member companies was an investment in time and resources that I think will pay dividends to the association in the long run,” said Kerwin Brown, president and chief executive officer. “I’m excited to welcome our new staff members to the BEMA family.”

Laura Sanderson was hired as communication specialist. In this role, she will manage and facilitate external communications with membership and industry communities. Ms. Sanderson also will manage BEMA’s membership database, web site and on-line registration. She received a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a master’s degree in integrated marketing from Kansas University.

Melva Brownlee was added as an executive assistant. In addition to providing executive support to Mr. Brown, she will serve as the liaison to the board of directors and facilitate board development and strategic planning. Other responsibilities include organizing and coordinating outreach and external relations efforts. Ms. Brownlee has a degree in social work from the University of Central Missouri and professional experience in the non-profit sector.

Kelly Allen was promoted to manager, membership and special events. Ms. Allen will be responsible for creating and implementing various membership programs and affinity offerings for BEMA. She also will focus on member recruitment and retention and lead the planning of BEMA’s various special events and sponsorships. Ms. Allen joined the BEMA staff in February 2016 after spending nine years working in the beef and dairy industries.
