World 2013-14 wheat ending stocks up 1% from September

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture in its Nov. 8 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates projected  2013-14 global ending stocks of wheat at 178.48 million tonnes, up 1% from the September projection of 176.28 million tonnes and up about 2% from 175.59 million tonnes estimated for 2012-13.

The U.S.D.A. did not issue its WASDE report in October due to the partial federal government shutdown.

World wheat production for 2013-14 was projected at 706.38 million tonnes, down 2.51 million tonnes from September but up 50.89 million tonnes, or 8%, from 655.49 million tonnes in 2012-13. Global wheat consumption was projected at 703.49 million tonnes, down 2.98 million tonnes from September but up 24.21 million tonnes, or 4%, from 679.28 million tonnes in 2012-13. World wheat exports were projected at 153.72 million tonnes, down 800,000 tonnes from September but up 15.4 million tonnes, or 11%, from 138.32 million tonnes in 2012-13.

World corn ending stocks in 2013-14 were projected at 164.33 million tonnes, up 12.91 million tonnes, or 9%, from 151.42 million tonnes in September and up 29.47 million tonnes, or 22%, from 134.86 million tonnes in 2012-13.

World soybean ending stocks for 2013-14 were projected at 70.23 million tonnes, down 1.31 million tonnes from September but up 10.12 million tonnes, or 17%, from 60.11 million tonnes in 2012-13.

Soybean production in 2013-14 was projected at a record 88 million tonnes in Brazil, unchanged from September and up 6 million tonnes from 2012-13.

Global rice carryover was projected at 106.52 million tonnes in 2013-14, down 870,000 tonnes from September and down slightly from 106.44 million tonnes in 2012-13.
