LIVERPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM – ADM Cocoa will serve the European market for compound coatings and fillings produced with R.S.P.O.-certified segregated palm oil now that is has received certification for the use of segregated palm oil in its Liverpool facility. Using 100% segregated palm oil allows the company’s customers to place this claim on their end product: “This product contains R.S.P.O. certified palm oil.”
ADM Cocoa will start to exclusively source segregated palm oil for use within its European cocoa and chocolate manufacturing facilities. Archer Daniels Midland Co., Decatur, Ill., is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (R.S.P.O.), which promotes “the production and use of sustainable palm oil for people, planet and prosperity.”
ADM also has a Socially and Environmentally Responsible Agricultural Practices (S.E.R.A.P.) cocoa program that has provided more than $15.3 million in financial incentives to cooperatives and individual farms in the Ivory Coast. The incentives encourage collaboration among cocoa growers as they address economic, social and environmental issues and seek to improve cocoa crop quality. The program has expanded into Nigeria and Indonesia.
“Committing to fully segregated R.S.P.O.-certified palm oil at our facility in Liverpool marks an important step in our quest to offer the broadest range of sustainable products,” said Kai-Uwe Ostheim, general manager of global sustainability cocoa for ADM.
