WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased in June while the price for whole wheat bread decreased, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 143.9c, up 3.8c per lb from May. The gain follows two straight months of declines in the average price. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June rose in all four regions — up 7c in the South, up 3.2c in the West, up 1.7c in the Northeast and up 0.8c in the Midwest.

At 205.7c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 1.4c per lb from May but up 12.2c per lb from June 2012.

The national average price of family flour in June was 53.3c per lb, up 0.3c from May and up 1.4c from June 2012.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 130.4c per lb, down 6.7c from May and down 2.8c from June 2012. Chocolate chip cookies were 372.1c per lb, up 29.3c from May but down 0.8c from June 2012. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 72.3c per lb, up 2.1c from May and up 4.2c from June 2012.
