WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of turkey, cheese and pork in warehouses on Feb. 28 were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest

Cold Storage report.

Total red meat supplies were 1,096,075,000 lbs, about equal to levels in January 2009 but up 2% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Total frozen beef stocks were 434,166,000 lbs, down 6% from the previous month and down 1% from the previous year. Total frozen pork stocks were 636,608,000 lbs, up 5% from January and up 4% from a year ago. Frozen pork belly stocks were 77,748,000 lbs, up 12% from January 2009 but down 2% from February 2008.

Total chicken stocks were 647,452,000 lbs, down 7% from the previous month and down 15% from the previous year. Total turkey stocks were 470,053,000 lbs, up 5% from January 2009 and up 13% from February 2008. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,120,961,000 lbs, down 2% from the previous month and down 5% from the previous year.

Frozen stocks of egg whites were 2,796,000 lbs, down 1% from the previous month and down 5% from the previous year. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 862,000 lbs, down 18% from the previous month and down 10% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 9,283,000 lbs, down 2% from January 2009 but up 31% from February 2008.

Total butter stocks were 206,144,000 lbs, up 17% from the previous month but down 2% from the previous year. Total natural cheese stocks were 892,874,000 lbs, up 3% from the previous month and up 11% from the previous year.

Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 1,042,475,000 lbs, down 8% from January and down 2% from February 2008.

Total frozen vegetable stocks were 1,971,112,000 lbs, down 9% from January but up 11% from a year ago.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,249,539,000 lbs, up 5% from the previous month and up 33% from the previous year.

Stocks of frozen french fries were 954,382,000 lbs, up 2% from January 2009 and up 6% from February 2008.

Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 3,655,983,000 lbs, down 17% from the previous month but up 13% from the previous year.
