CARLISLE, PA. — Rick Herring has been named division president of Giant Carlisle, a unit of Ahold USA. Giant Carlisle operates 152 stores in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores, Martin’s Food Markets and Giant To Go. Mr. Herring succeeds Sander van der Laan, who has been named general manager of Albert Heijn in The Netherlands.

Mr. Herring is a 20-year veteran of Giant Carlisle, most recently as executive vice-president of finance and chief financial officer. He also has been instrumental in organizing Ahold Financial Services, Ahold USA’s shared financial service center located in Carlisle.

Mr. Herring has a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting from Albright College in Reading, Pa., and a master’s degree in business administration and finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J.
