DES PLAINES, ILL. — Chicago Sweeteners has acquired LSI sweetener distribution group from Archer Daniels Midland Co.

LSI, which had been part of the ADM Corn Processing business, will become part of the Chicago Sweetener Ingredients International division. LSI sells liquid and dry sweeteners, blends and specialty sweetener and starch products to customers in the western United States. LSI was acquired by ADM in 2003 as part of its acquisition of Minnesota Corn Processors.

Chicago Sweetener was established in 1979 by Abel Friedman with the idea of creating a "grocery store" for food manufacturers. The company serves the food, beverage, nutritional and pharmaceutical manufacturers with a line of ingredients including phosphates, flour, maltodextrins, molasses, starch, salt, oils, oats, fibers, gums, honey, proteins, dairy powders, sweeteners, eggs, polyols, propionates, gluten and acidulants.
