Garvey takes over as interim c.f.o. at Sara Lee

DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Mark Garvey has been named interim chief financial officer at Sara Lee Corp. He succeeds L.M. (Theo) de Kool, who previously announced he will retire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Mr. Garvey has been chief executive officer for Sara Lee International BV, a subsidiary of Sara Lee Corp., since July 2006, and chief financial officer for Sara Lee International of Sara Lee Corp., since July 1, 2006. In addition, he is senior vice-president of internal audit of Sara Lee Corp. His responsibilities include assessing the quality of Sara Lee Corp.’s internal control environment and compliance with Sara Lee’s finance policies.

Mr. Garvey joined Sara Lee in 1995, and has held various management positions, including director of internal audit, executive director of corporate development, and vice-president of internal audit. Prior to joining Sara Lee, he worked at Arthur Andersen in Dublin, Ireland, which included various international assignments as manager of audit and assurance services.

He received a bachelor’s degree in commerce from University College Dublin and a master’s of business administration degree from Chicago’s Northwestern University.
