WASHINGTON — Lee Sanders, senior vice-president of government relations and public affairs at the American Bakers Association, was presented with one of Baking & Snack magazine’s three Leadership awards at the A.B.A.’s board of directors meeting on June 17. Offering their congratulations were Chip Klosterman Jr., president, Klosterman’s Baking Co. and 2009 chairman of the A.B.A., and Robb MacKie, president and c.e.o., A.B.A.

Criteria for the award sought individuals whose actions become integral to their business, organization or the industry and their work becomes accepted as a collective victory, when in actuality that success is a direct result of individuals working quietly but diligently behind the scenes.

"Lee Sanders is a leader in all aspects of the baking industry," Mr. MacKie said. "Her role on the boards and executive committees of organizations such as the American Society of Baking, American Institute of Baking, American Association of Cereal Chemists, Society of Bakery Women and many others is just some of the proof of the high regard in which she is held."

Others on the inaugural list of award recipients included John Khoury, president, Custom Foods, Inc., DeSoto, Kas.; and Stuart Rosen, vice-president, Highland Baking, Inc., Northbrook, Ill.
