GREENFIELD, IND. — Elanco on Jan. 14 announced it will launch a business platform, Elanco Food Solutions, that will market food safety products and services to the food animal industry. On Jan. 20, the company got some business when Albermarle Corp., Baton Rouge, La., announced it will partner with Elanco to market Albermarle’s portfolio of food safety products worldwide.

Albermarle’s proprietary antimicrobial products include Bovibrom and Avibrom. The company provides specialty chemicals to the food service industry.

“Elanco looks forward to partnering with Albermarle through our Elanco Food Solutions business to provide integrated pre- and post-harvest technologies for meat and poultry packers and processors around the world,” said K. Douglas Miller, director of Elanco Food Solutions. “We have been marketing one of Albermarle’s antimicrobials to beef packers, and we are excited to expand our relationship with the company as we introduce additional products to the meat and poultry industries.”

Greenfield-based Elanco, a division of pharmaceutical corporation Eli Lilly and Company, develops and markets products to improve animal health and food animal production in more than 75 countries.
The new business platform, Elanco Food Solutions, will aim to develop new technologies to help the food chain protect consumers from such foodborne pathogens as E. coli 0157:H7, Salmonella and Listeria. Dr. Miller will lead Elanco Food Solutions as director of business operations. He joined Elanco in 2000 and held several clinical research and product development roles both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Miller received a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Illinois.

“Consumers have high expectations for their food to be safe, so Elanco Food Solutions is providing technologies to reduce foodborne pathogens in packing and processing plants,” Dr. Miller said. “We realize there is no single silver bullet solution, which is why we will deliver multiple pre- and post-harvest inventions for beef, poultry and pork packers and processors that are part of a total pathogen-control system for the meat and poultry industries.”

David Cobb was named director of marketing for Elanco Food Solutions. After joining Elanco in 1982, he worked in the company’s cattle, poultry and swine business and led new product launches in more than 15 countries. Mr. Cobb received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Tennessee and a master’s in business administration from Duke University.

Other new appointments for Elanco Food Solutions include Tim Nicholson as director of sales and technical services, Patrick Miles as technical consultant, and Rob Ames as associate brand manager.

Mr. Nicholson has more than 20 years of experience in the animal health industry and food chain. He received a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Iowa State University.
